Season 2023-2024
Ladies’ 2s success against Southampton
Published on 28th Oct, 2023
Southampton made the journey up the A34 keen to put an end to the L2s’ winning ways. But thankfully they didn’t (having only 12 players probably didn’t help them?). The 2s dominated the early exchanges and raced into an early lead as Kathryn turned and laid off the ball perfectly into Evie’s path, who drove into the D and slotted past the advancing keeper. The 2s continued to dominate, and Trin was left much of a spectator for the game (ok, she did touch the ball once), but Southampton defended well, and their keeper made a number of good saves. However Hawks doubled their lead near the end of the first half, with some good stuff through the middle from Watto, and then I can’t really remember what happened but Odders ended up scrambling it over the line.
After some wise words from Andy Clark (covering for Wilko who was away), the 2s came out determined to kill off the game. It was a bit scrappy to start with but then the 2s settled and controlled the of the game, with Niamh and Evie in fine form in particular. The third goal came midway through the half when Danielle played a pinpoint pass into the D to Kathryn, whose deflected shot was volleyed into the net by POM Evie. 3-0. A lot of circle penetrations from the 2s (38!), ok, perhaps there could have been more goals, but a good day at the office all round. Apart from for one of the umpires who got a flat battery and was told there was a 6 hour wait for the RAC to come. But thankfully H’s Breakdown Services came to the rescue and she was only her way in no time (thanks H!).
