Women’s 2s beat British Army

Published on 08th Mar, 2026

Determined not to be fazed by the British Army’s legendary fitness, the Ladies 2s went into battle in pursuit of a win.

The team started in possession (a rare occurrence with Chloe Kirby’s bad luck) and patiently passed the ball around the back, waiting for an opportunity to break through the Army’s high press. There were some excellent line balls played by the two halfbacks, and some fantastic passing sequences between the midfield and forwards. Several circle entries made but no goals were scored in this quarter.

Entering the second quarter the 2s were determined to continue with their passing hockey and get a goal. However, the Army battled hard, making some good interceptions and surging towards the D. These counter attacks were short lived thanks to the powerhouse fullbacks.

After a team talk at half time and some very much deserved sweets, the 2s were ready to roll for the second half. The army started strongly, utilising their long clearances from defence to forwards to win a few short corners. Some incredible goalkeeping from Freya prevented any goals from being scored and we went into the final quarter with no change to the scoreboard (0-0).

The final quarter saw some great carries up the line and several near misses. With 10 minutes left on the clock, Phoebe accelerated up the left hand side of the pitch and along the baseline, showing some beautiful elimination skills. Having entered the D, she passed a ball to Catherine Reaney who was waiting at the top and sent the ball flying into the net! With this goal the 2s just needed to keep calm and maintain the score line for the last 9 minutes. Thankfully this was achieved and the 2s had successfully completed Scragg’s mission to ‘put the game to bed’.

It was a well deserved win resulting from exceptional teamwork. Honourable mention to the player of the match, Rosie, who refused to let a single ball past her!
