Remembering Marley

Please see the following invitation from Bex and Matt Oakes:

"On the 7th August 2021, we are planning to hold a charity hockey match with a BBQ, refreshments and face painting for big and small kids at Oxford Hawks hockey club, Banbury Road North. This in memory of our son Marley Oakes, who died 7th August 2019. It will start from 2pm.

Marley was only with us 10 months, but he spent most weekends beside the hockey pitch, had been to hockey Christmas parties and even spent a couple of days at the Hawks hockey summer kid’s camp (picture above). A charity hockey match seemed a fitting tribute to him, to celebrate his life and impact on all of us.

We have put together 2 teams of players of people who knew Marley (Oxford Hawks, Oxford and extended hockey family). We would love people to come along and support. We also plan to have a short mini’s game after the main game, to allow Amber to enjoy some hockey with her friends too.

We will be having a BBQ, cake sale, face painting and drinks (beer, wine, Pimms and soft drinks) on sale throughout the event, so please come down and join in the fun. We will have access to the second pitch for children to play on safely throughout the afternoon.

If you are attending please sign up here this way we know how many people to expect and cater for. We don’t want to run out of food or more importantly BEER.

As Hawks have kindly given us the pitch for free, all match fees, along with the profits from the food and drinks sales will go towards our chosen charities: The Maple Tree, our local children’s centre in Wheatley, to fund paediatric first aid specifically to include CPR for parents and carers. The second charity is Teddy’s Wish https://www.teddyswish.org/our-story a charity that supports bereaved families including those who have lost children to sudden infant death. We have been lucky enough to benefit from a bereavement retreat which they funded.

We have already set up a “justgiving” page as well for those who want to contribute but cannot make the day: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/marleysstars?utm_term=B954q6JrM

We hope to see you on the day.
