W7s in close win with Witney

It was a lovely sunny Saturday morning and our first match of the season a friendly against Witney. The shirts were a little bit late arriving. Deborah couldn’t find a new entrance. For those used to Saint Edwards, it’s now the same place as the exit,

The sevens started well putting a lot of pressure on Witney. This resulted in a goal early on in the first half from Sophia. There was some lovely passing in the team particularly between the twins and Alex.

In the second half, we made some rearrangements of the team to live for the fact that we now had Becky instead of Kim we continue to press the attack and Islay scored our second goal. However our legs began to tire. Witney fought back and got to goals. We were now two all. In the last two minutes of the game Phil scored to take us into the lead 32 and there wasn’t time for Whitney to recover.

It was a great game in the Sun thanks must go to Charlie Baggs and Hugh Bentley for umpiring. And also many thanks to those who played twice once for us and once for the sixes

Next week league starts and we’re away at Banbury. So it is particularly good to have this win behind us.
