Season 2022-2023
Ladies’ 2s in close win at Maidenhead
Published on 03rd Dec, 2022
Hawks made the short trip over to Maidenhead, keen to avenge their defeat there the previous year. They arrived early, with plenty of time to learn about the latest West End shows, plus a bit of cooing over Alfie (though Spenny didn’t seem too clear who’s baby he was, perhaps she missed that news with her time away with her gammy leg?). The 2s started strongly and in fact dominated the whole of the first half, stringing some lovely passages of play together. Slightly dull for Lydia in our goal, but her time would come…
It wasn’t until the last minute of the half until we scored, when Henri crossed to Chloe Scragg who deflected beautifully into the corner. Happy days.
Second half was a very different ball game. Maidenhead came out strongly and Hawks lost some of their first half patience and Maidenhead dominated for large patches. They levelled from a short corner with about ten minutes to go, bit of wake-up call. Time was ticking down and Maidenhead had chances to take the lead, but Lydia did her thing and kept them out. Then two minutes from the end Bex found Sandra with a glorious 50-yard pass, Sandra duly turned and skinned three defenders before slamming it past the keeper on her reverse from the top of the D. Cue big celebrations. And a worthy Player of the Match award. With seconds left on the clock Maidenhead still managed to have two chances to level but Lydia did her thing again, and three points went to Hawks.
