Season 2023-2024
Ladies’ 7s trumped by Thame
Published on 23rd Apr, 2024
It was a bright sunny morning with a cool north-westerly breeze when Ladies’ 7s played their last league game of the season. Thame 3s pressed hard at the start but our defence held them off. Then we counter-attacked but could not score. Thame got 3 in quick succession so that by half time the score was 0 - 3.
We had a useful discussion at the half-time break. Consequently, we played a much better second half. We let in one more goal and then we were awarded a penalty corner. Bella received the ball at the top of the D and passed it back to Anoushka on the post and she slipped it in behind the keeper. So the final score was 1 -4 loss to Thame. However it was a good game with lots of positives to take forward to the next season.
There were nominations for player of the match for Helena (lots of great saves), Jess (always free right out on the left wing), Kim (with excellent marking) and Ros (had some great passes). The winner was Anoushka who had a superb game at right wing but also came back and helped defend. And, of course, she got the goal!
Many thanks to Adrian Higgins and Charlie Baggs for umpiring and to Simon Aumonier for taking the photos.
