Ladies’ 2 with a successful Sunday at Sonning

Published on 05th Feb, 2023

It was a gorgeous Sunday in Sonning, and we were pumped for the hockey match. Players Flick and Alicia, who had played on the pitch the day before and knew all the tips and tricks to win the game. Unfortunately, our legs were still wobbling from the DERBY win we had played on Saturday.

As we rocked up to the pitch, we were delighted (not really) to see each other again, just 18 hours later. "What a cracking weekend," we thought sarcastically. Little did we know what was about to go down.

Wato, the team's weather reporter, had promised a sunny day. In the pre-game talk, we bragged that we had two clean sheets from the previous games. But the first two minutes of the game were like a horror movie. Sonning scored a goal, and we were already 1-0 down. Talk about a rude awakening!

However, Sandra had other ideas. She responded within 4 minutes and made it 1-1. She took on the entire 11 players and slammed the ball into the back of the net. It was a stunning move.

Odders joined the party, getting a goal two minutes later, making it 2-1 in our favor. There were a few changes from both sides, but we started to find our rhythm, making the ball do the work.

During half-time, Wilko gave us a master plan, and we definitely responded. In the second half, we ruled the game with goals from Katheryn, Katie, and Kathryn again, making it a cracking second half 5-1 win.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing. Laura Scraggle was a tad forgetful and drove 30 minutes towards Sonning before remembering to pick up key player Katie Lowe. Luckily, she made it back in time for the game.

As for the awards, the DOD was obvious and went to our captain Laura. And the MOM for taking on the entire Sonning hockey team with a swollen ankle was Sandra. What a legend!

In conclusion, it was a match full of laughs, some incredible moves, and forgetful moments. But as a team, we pulled it off and had a cracking time.
