Season 2022-2023
L5s NARROWLY LOSE OUT TO BANBURY
Published on 17th Oct, 2022
Another slimline team this week like most other Hawks sides. Following a really good warm up, L5s started the game with all good intentions. Unfortunately, like last week, a lack of focus in the first few minutes led to an interception of the ball by Banbury who then attacked aggressively, overloading the Hawks defenders and we conceded an early goal. Not our best start.
However, after this we were stronger for the rest of the half, with some really lovely joined-up play and fast balls up the pitch, including some attacking play in the D. Banbury had their fair share of the ball and were good at intercepting and hassling but we defended well, and the half finished without any further goals.
We started the second half determined to find the back of the net. 14 minutes into the second half, our skipper got hit in the face at point blank range, following a hitting error by a Banbury player. The game was halted for nearly 10 mins after which Hawks had to reshuffle positions to cover the full back slot. The rest of the half saw the 12 Hawks players working really hard and we created many good opportunities, including narrowly missing the goal in our final two short corners, one of which was stopped literally on the line. The final score was 1-0 to Banbury.
POM went to Becky who did a sterling job of defending, especially in the second half without her regular FB buddy. (P.S. Susan spent 5 hours in A&E and is now sporting 8 stitches in her eyelid!)
Players: Sherene Butler, Lizzie Neal, Kelly Fogden, Sophie Dawes, Flora Miller, Monica Murphy, Char Wolfson, Katie Carson, Jane Holmes, Lydia Fehse, Becky Jennings, Susan McErlain, Charlie Bransby
