Season 2022-2023
Two early goals for Ladies’ 2s
Published on 19th Mar, 2023
The Ladies’ 2s welcomed Maidenhead to BRN, always a tight game. It started pretty well though after great work down the right by Beth, who found Sandra near the top of the D. One touch then smashed into the roof of the net, a Sandra classic. We went 2-0 up not long after, with a well worked corner routine deflected by Katie Lowe, in her last season for Hawks before she moves away (sniff). It wasn’t all plain sailing though as from then on we didn’t seem to be able to hold on to the ball and let Maidenhead come at us for quite a while. 2-0 at half time.
The second half contained some truly sublime hockey, zinging the ball round the pitch with ease, and it almost produced an amazing team goal but Beth’s first-time effort went agonisingly close at the far post. Flick continued her excellent form since joining the 2s a few weeks back. Kirby put on a fine display out of position at half back. But highlight of the game has to be Charlie holding on to a clean sheet on her 2s debut in goal, despite facing 10 or more corners and plenty of other goal bound efforts. Huge congratulations Charlie! Marc you can relax now. Coach Wilko was all smiles at the end after a good solid all round performance and another three points for the 2s. Can’t win the league as Fareham did that last week, but keen to push for 2nd - two games left!
