Season 2024-2025
Oxford Hawks Women’s 7’s vs Witney 5’s – 12.10.24
Published on 15th Oct, 2024
The morning started with a meeting in the changing rooms. The first question Cat asked the team was, “Are you awake?” Despite Cat not knowing for sure, we proceeded to discuss formation and game play.
The match started slowly as we adjusted to the speed of the pitch. Sadly, Witney took advantage of this, and we quickly went 1-0 down. However, through the use of triangles and with sheer determination, we won a short corner. Isla stepped up to take the straight strike at goal and scored. The score at half time was 1-1.
At half time, we received some words of wisdom from Cat and Linda Billington. We spoke about supporting each other, communication and positioning.
The second half began with Rosie making some excellent runs down the left-hand side. One of which resulted in Sarah Rowe scoring our second goal. Hawks looked to remain strong against Witney with some great attacking efforts and defending. However, with a quick turnaround of play and with the poor timing of a defensive substitution, Witney evened the score to 2-2.
Overall, the game was evenly matched and the score a fair outcome. We had a couple of debuts this week with Claire Bell playing her first ladies 7s game and Gill moving from defence to play centre forward! The following were nominated for man of the match: Charlotte, Claire, Rosie, Isla and Phil. However, the deserving winner was Bella!
Thank you to Emily and Phil for helping us out this week and Linda for coming to support.
