Season 2022-2023
Men’s 1s draw with Bath Buccaneers
Published on 08th Mar, 2023
The M1’s entertained Team Bath on Sunday in the hope of finally finding a winning way. They were encouraged by their performance against league leaders Southgate the previous weekend, when only the frame of the goal (twice) and a perfectly good goal being disallowed, robbed them of at least a point in a narrow 4-3 defeat. With games still to come against fellow strugglers Brighton and Old Cranleighan, a win over Bath would leave Hawks with their destiny still firmly in their own hands. A sloppy mistake by Jack Biggs resulted in Bath taking the lead in the 9th minute but Ed Tristem equalised midway through the second quarter. Biggs then made up for his earlier error with a penalty corner conversion on the final play of the first half to send the home side into the interval 2-1 up. Another defensive slip-up led to a Bath equaliser shortly before the third quarter break and Hawks were unable to fashion any clear-cut chances as the clock ticked down.
So, a respectable draw, but not really enough, particularly with both Brighton and Old Cranleighan each picking up three points from their games. A trip to the seaside and a match-up with Brighton awaits next Sunday.
