Season 2022-2023
Ladies’ 7s lose to Leighton
Published on 26th Nov, 2022
It was a bright clear morning in Leighton buzzard. The 7s got off to a slow start with Leighton putting pressure on the defence. A number of short corners lead to hawks conceding a couple of early goals, despite a number of great saves by Niv. The defence continued to work hard in the Hawks’ 22, saving many shots at goal including several more shorts. The play improved as the half continued with Hawks putting pressure on the Leighton defence and getting a couple of short corners which unfortunately, we couldn’t convert to goals. The first half ends with Leighton ahead 3-0.
After an inspiring half time talk from the Cannon captains and some super chewy sweets. Hawks came back strong with some great runs down the right from Camilla and Jill. Leighton pushed back, getting another goal. Hawks had other attempts at goal leading to a couple of shorts. Unfortunately, Leighton got a break following one of these leaving Niv in a one on one with an attacker, which despite some strong goal keeping lead to penalty flick and another goal for Leighton. Hawks kept their heads and some strong defending kept Leighton out of the goal. Hawks suffered a couple of injuries towards the end of the second half leading to some shuffling of players and Leighton managed to capitalise on this with a couple of successive goals. Final score 9-0 to Leighton Buzzard.
Despite the score line the whole team played well and with only 1 sub there was a great work rate from all. This was reflected in the man of the match votes with votes for Sophie, Katie, Charlotte, Niv and Deborah. With Jill and Camilla being voted joint man of the match. Thank you to Simon for the lovely pictures and to Charlotte V for the great match report.
