Season 2022-2023
Ladies’ 2s with another good win
Published on 29th Nov, 2022
The Ladies 2's came out on top against Amersham and Chalfont after a tight 2-1 win on Saturday morning. The game started off in Hawks’ favour with Rebecca Odlin scoring the first goal 9 minutes in. It came off a beautiful piece of skill from right halfback Rosie Spencer who ran all the way up the line and crossed the ball in. The game continued with Hawks on top as the second goal was scored from a messy fight in the D but was finally touched in by Sandra Roche at minute 25. Then just as Hawks began to get comfortable with their 2-0 lead, their game management let them down as ACHC managed to get one past the keeper in the last minute of the first half.
After a rousing team talk during half time from coach Emily Wilkinson the 2's set off with new vigour to score some more goals to ensure they got the win. It didn’t go quite to plan as the second half continued to be quite frantic with Hawks wanting to always take the quickest route to goal and not think about possession or using the space out wide. There was a unfortunate green card given to attacker Beth Forrest a few minutes into the 2nd half, after a slightly overenthusiastic tackle which led her to end up on the floor. But Hawks rode out the 2 minutes with a woman down smoothly. There were a few near misses throughout the 2nd half from ACHC, but some excellent defending from the Hawks defensive line stopped them from converting. When the full-time whistle blew, all Hawks supporters both on and off the pitch could breathe a sigh of relief. A win was just what was needed.
