Season 2022-2023
Ladies’ 2s beaten by Bournemouth
Published on 30th Sep, 2022
The Ladies 2s were eager to kick start their league title defence against Bournemouth, but the day didn't quite go as planned. Despite winning comfortably against them home and away last season, they were a very different team this time round and defended superbly throughout. Hawks had to do quite a bit of defending early doors, with Trin (on her 2s debut in goal) having to be on her toes with a few top-class reflex saves. However, Bournemouth did open the scoring after 20 minutes when the ball was fired into the D and deflected in. 1-0 Bournemouth.
Some rallying words from Wilko at half time definitely seemed to do something, and the 2s dominated the second half, winning a total of 14 short corners. However, some goal line clearances, the crossbar and some great saves kept them out. Five minutes from the end a quick break down the left caught Hawks napping and the score was 2-0. Not the start the 2s wanted but onward and upward! They face Henley at their place next Saturday, keen to get their league account up and running. Player of the Match was Bex on her league debut for the 2s - some outstanding distribution plus her usual feisty defending made her a worthy winner!
