Home Derby win for Ladies’ 2s!
Published on 08th Nov, 2022
A mouth-watering local derby - Oxford 1s came up to BRN to face the Ladies 2s, both mid-table-ish at the start of the day. Always a fascinating encounter between the 2 sides, although Henri almost didn't make it in time due to a major Voi scooter fail. Note to Henri - buy a second car. Note to Henri - DOD this week. Anyway, the game got underway with no further mishaps, and it didn't disappoint. Hawks started off marginally stronger creating a number of good chances, but the keeper (Claud's housemate) made some top notch saves. As the half wore on, Oxford created some openings of their own, but the home defence was on fire and the scoresheet remained goalless.
In the second half, Hawks again had some good passages of play, and went 1-0 up through an Odders finish which sort of scrambled over the line somehow. Probably not a contender for Goal of the Month but they all count. Emily Watson was on absolute fire for the whole game, she bossed the midfield and came out on top of every challenge and was thoroughly deserving of her Player of the Match award. Laura and Chloe Scragg did well to not confuse the game with a family gathering, having 2 cousins (and their uncle coaching) on the opposing team. For the last 15 minutes Oxford pressed hard for the equaliser and it was tense all the way to the end, when they won a corner as the final whistle went. However, the home defence held out and Hawks took all three points.
Many thanks to Clive Jones for the excellent photos.
