Oxford Hawks Women’s 1’s vs Bedford 1’s – 12.10.24

Published on 15th Oct, 2024

Oxford Hawks started with a bang, grabbing an early lead just four minutes in. It was a beautiful team goal, assisted by Smithers and scored by Lexie, and things were looking bright. Just ten minutes later, we were at it again, with Lexie shooting another one past the keeper. At 2-0, Hawks were on cruise control, looking and feeling very dominant. Out of nowhere, Bedford fired back with a quick disruption in hawks play scoring their first goal.

In the 3rd quarter they equalised, levelling things up just when the Hawks were starting to feel like they had the game in the bag. Hawks’ dominance wasn’t translating to the scoreboard, and suddenly it was game on! The fourth quarter brought some much-needed redemption. After a flurry of teamwork, Jemima set up Sandra for a cracking finish, putting the Hawks back in the driver’s seat at 3-2.

As always, there was plenty of chatter about DOD candidates: Sandra wore her captain’s badge upside down like it was a new fashion trend, Jemima flaunted her fancy Starbucks water bottle on the pitch, and Megan Hughes thought Coca-Cola was an acceptable pre-game energy drink. But the crown went to Lexie, for managing to miss not one, but two sitters after scoring twice. Life really comes at you fast, and the umpire even came up to her after saying she should’ve been sent off for how obvious those goals were… On the brighter side, Jemima and Hibby deservedly took joint MOM for their relentless work rate!

Final score: 3-2 win to Hawks. Chaotic, hilarious, and well-earned win for the team! (Big shout out to Austin for stepping in as coach while Ryan is away with the over 35s New Zealand team)
