Oxford Hawks Women’s 5’s vs Witney 4s – 05.10.24

W5s make it a third win in a row!

Beautiful, albeit early, morning at BRN for the Women’s 5s, who took on Witney 4s.

Witney started strong and had a number of chances before the 5s settled down and started to put some nice passes together to open up the space and move the ball quickly to our attacking D with Sherene , Rebecca and Caris all on the look out to get the 5s ahead.

Rebecca scored first, with a “spectacular” deflection after a missile in to the D from Catherine.

Kelly then made it 2 from a short corner; stopped by Catherine, slipped to Sherene who shot across the goal.  Kelly is claiming it was a slide/dive to connect with the ball (but admitted she can’t actually remember what happened).

2-0 into half time, the aim was to score first in the second half but this didn’t happen as after a series of short corners, Witney were awarded a flick which their player put away to make it 2-1.

Lots of solid defending from Linda,  Susan,  Claire  Jane, Calla and POM Laura.  More passing play with inners Nina, Kelly and Maria putting in a huge amount of work. Then Sherene finished it off with a reverse stick whirly shot complete with sound effects, with Catherine claiming her third assist.

One more bit of excitement (DOD Jane for clearing the ball into Susan in the dying seconds), before the match. To add insults injury, a short corner was awarded against Susan which thankfully were successfully saved. 5s  finished 3-1 to the 5s - remaining unbeaten in Div 1.

Good luck POM Laura - Jane’s apple cake is a hard act to follow (no pressure).
