Season 2024-2025
Oxford Hawks Women’s 1’s vs St Albans 1s – 05.10.24
Published on 08th Oct, 2024
Hawks welcomed St Albans hockey club to the fortress, renamed ‘the village’ this week. The game started with Hawks putting themselves under pressure with some uncharacteristic errors where the basics went a bit AWOL. Kate absorbed the pressure well and hawks started to settle when a rogue ball got intercepted and St Albans managed to scramble a goal on the counter attack. Frustrated but eager to respond Hawks grew into the game with some passages of play putting their defence under pressure. St Albans keeper kept them in the game with some good saves.
In the second quarter hawks equalised with a well executed short corner finding Odlin who deflected it past the keeper. Half time the team were determined to build on their form and demonstrate the standard of hockey they expect from themselves. Good passing hockey found hawks putting sustained pressure on the visitors. Although chances came, the home side were unlucky not to go ahead, after the opposition defense saved it off the line with their head. Hawks absorbed pressure at their defensive end inspired by some netball moves from DOD Bex and with player of the game Kate in goal having a stormer. The team kept their heads continuing to try and attack. Despite their best efforts today the result was not to go their way and they had to settle for a point. Result 1-1. MOM - Kate Brine. DOD - Bex Oakes
