Oxford Hawks Mens 3’s vs Marlow 2s – 16.11.24

The men’s 3s arrived at BRN on Saturday afternoon ready for a big game against Marlow 2s. Both teams had experienced mixed results lately, finding themselves in the bottom-half of the table and looking for some much-needed points. After a good warmup hawks started strong, creating some big chances going forward but unable to capitalise on these with a goal. However, Marlow grew into the game with the Hawks defenders having to make some big tackles to keep the game all-square. Weathering this pressure eventually paid off as Hawks broke forward with Leo beating several Marlow players before burying a reverse stick shot in the bottom corner. After a positive team talk at half-time the boys went out ready for the second half. The game opened up in this period with chances coming to both teams and Oskar making some great saves. Unfortunately it was Marlow who struck first, beating the Hawks press and scoring a well worked goal. Following this, both teams continued to threaten but Marlow took care of the ball and scored again to make it 2-1 with around 10 minutes to go. This kicked the Hawks players into action, with chances being made and short corners won but the end product missing. The game culminated with a Hawks short comer after the final whistle. This was a great chance to make it all-square, but a great pick from the post-man prevented Sam’s powerful flick finding the back of the net. The game therefore ended in a tough 2-1 loss, leaving the 3s at the bottom of the table, but confident in their ability to pick-up points moving forward.
