Season 2024-2025

Oxford Hawks Men’s 2’s vs Abingdon 1s – 05.10.24

Published on 08th Oct, 2024

Fresh from their away victory at BRN (against the mighty 3s), the M2s travelled to a sunny Tilsley Park for the local grudge match with Abingdon.

A strong side, building great camaraderie and momentum, had the oppo under pressure from the off, using the well-drilled press to exploit weakness at the heart of the Abingdon defence to score an early drag-flick goal.  Dan Andrews off the top of the D and 1-0 to the boys in white (nice new shirts!).

The score remained the same for the rest of the first period, with Hawks continuing to pressure the Abingdoan goal throughout.   Starting brightly in the second half, new-boy Felix continued his goal-fest streak with a far post tap in, following some good work from the veteran Greenlee on the left and then a bit of a muddle in the Abingdon defence. 2-0 to Hawks!  High Wycombe must be regretting the day they put Felix out for a free transfer!

Goalie Tender Barney (almost) connected with the Abingdon centre forward/ballet dancer, which led to a dubious short corner.  This error allowed the oppo to build momentum in the closing stages of the game, and eventually scoring to take it the final score to 2-1 to Hawks.

Fraser Mackenzie celebrated his MOM long into Saturday night, recovering from his previous DOD shame.  Leo now carries the DOD shame for the week, with his embarrassing wardrobe selection error.  Harsh but fair!

The result leave the M2s 3rd in the league, and with next week's opposition now withdrawn (no doubt through terror of their impending loss at the hands of the mighty 2s), it's all to play for!
