Season 2022-2023
Ladies’ C start with a win
Published on 25th Apr, 2023
Hawks C were very excited to begin their summer league campaign. We lined up against a very spritely St Edwards team and were soon 1-0 up after very silky skills from Emily Clark.
Lexie Steel thought she would like to get in on the goal scoring action and was her normal composed and skilful self to go past several defenders and then slot the ball away to give us a 2-0 lead.
It wasn’t all about Hawks, Teddies created a number of chances with their speedy and skilful ways. However, GK, Billers and defence of wee Jan, Sue Clark, Sal and Kim Hudson were up to the challenge.
April Bedford, aka Bedfordshire hasn’t played hockey for a wee while, but you would never know this. All those available skills never left her and up popped Bedfordshire to give us that three goal lead. Just before half time, Teddies converted and it was 3-1 to hawks.
Scraggle and Sue Clark had a lot of wise words at half time, and we were raring to go for the 2nd half.
Sarah Rowe played brilliantly in the first half and got herself into some great positions and was really unlucky not to score. However, early on in the 2nd half, Sarah picked up the ball in the D and calmly slotted the ball past the GK. 4-1 Hawks.
Teddies scored next, 4-2 Hawks. Then Lexie Steel decided that she wasn’t finished with goal scoring. She scored again to give us a 5-2 lead.
Teddies really upped their game and scored two more goals.
We were all pretty relieved when we checked with the umpires, and they confirmed that we had won 5-4.
Hawks C look forward to playing Witney B on the 16th May.
