Season 2022-2023
Ladies’ 7s in great game at Thame
Published on 05th Feb, 2023
What a game!! We lost but we’re proud of how we played, especially being down one player from the start. Thame however had 4 subs plus what felt like a cast of thousands supporting them in their home game.
First half we came out strong determined to have a great game. We had good possession in mid field, with Niv, Deborah, Gill and Jane working hard as a strong unit in defence. Thame got 2 goals but just before half time Sarah (who normally plays in defence) got a strike on goal, but just before it hit the back board the ref called a short corner. With the half time whistle blown we called ‘all up’ to make the most of the opportunity but we didn’t convert.
Half-time 2-0 but definitely still in the game. The halftime talk was ‘keep doing what we’re doing’ so after some jelly sweets we got back out there with lots of energy.
The start of the second half was very much in Hawks possession. Eva, Charlotte V and Sophie played hard in the mid-field helping control the game and getting some nice balls forward. Charlotte C, Eva and Sarah made some cracking runs on the goal. With a lovely run up the wing Eva scored a fabulous goal.
In the last 10 minutes, Thame rolled on their subs and scored two goals in quick succession and then just before the final whistle Thame snuck in one more. Final score 5-1.
Despite a loss, our team spirit was high, we had some new players that gelled brilliantly, and we all felt that the score really didn't represent the game.
Player of the match votes went to Niv, Jane, Sophie and ‘everyone’ but the winner was Eva our goal scorer today. Congratulations Eva!
Thanks to Nina Chadbone for the great photos in the fading light.
