Ladies’ 1s in great cup game against current champions
Published on 04th Nov, 2023
The Ladies 1s took on Beeston Hockey Club, who compete in the Women's Premier League and are the current cup champions.
The game was an enjoyable one, both to play in and to watch, with both teams displaying good passages of play. Oxford Hawks created some good team passing and goal-scoring opportunities but were unlucky not to finish them. Beeston were more clinical in front of goal, showing their experience by taking their opportunities in the final third.
Beeston went 1-0 up in the first half, but some great saves from Trin in goal, including denying Beeston a 1-on-1 opportunity, kept Oxford Hawks very much in the game, and it felt like it could go either way with great build up play in the middle of the pitch and end-to-end opportunities.
Oxford Hawks were unlucky to concede a second goal but kept battling and showing great composure and determination. However, the gap was too much of an ask against a strong Premier League side, and with the pressure now easing for Beeston, they were able to press on and get the third goal to seal the deal.
Oxford Hawks never gave up and came very close to getting on the score sheet with a few close open play opportunities in front of goal, and a short corner straight strike that hit the inside of the post and somehow deflected away from goal.
Oxford Hawks took a lot of positives from the game, and should be proud of their performance, and take that experience and confidence into their next league game.
