Women’s 2s lose out to Witney

Published on 29th Sep, 2025

Following strong pre-season preparation, the Ladies 2s were feeling positive for their first league fixture of the season. Witney promised to be a tough opposition having competed in National Division One only two seasons ago.
After a lacklustre warm up, this low energy level continued into the first half where Hawks struggled to match Witney's intensity and the standard of their own recent performances. There were flashes of nice play but we weren't able to string these into longer passages and the first half was marked by high levels of turnover from both sides.
Both Witney and Hawks had chances, with shots and short corners at either end, however Witney had an excellent conversion rate from their visits to their attacking circle and Hawks reached the break 5-0 down.
After four packets of half time sweets and some choice words from Scraggle, Hawks took to the field ready to step up in the second half.
Hawks' intensity was much higher and, although there were still areas for improvement, acquitted themselves much better with some lovely balls through from the back, hard work in the midfield and excellent leading in the forward line.
Witney's discipline started to break down in the second half, with a green card  awarded for some particularly loose stick tackling from one of their forwards, and a penalty stroke for some dubious defending in front of their goal, which was confidently slotted away by Megan.
The final whistle left the score at 6-1 win to Witney. Although not the result we were hoping for, there's lots for us to take away and learn from for our next fixture away in Henley.
MOM - Apples for some serious graft in the midfield
DOD - Alice Potter for a variety of reasons.
