The ladies 4's arrived in good spirits for our match against bottom of the table Leighton Buzzard. Kim was standing in as Captain today as Clare was sunning herself in Tenerife!
After a positive team talk and lively warm up the game started fairly evenly with chances for both teams. Kim was disappointed to hit the post early on, however after some persistence and good attacking play, Molly scored after a goal mouth scramble. Hawks needed to find a way through and get the 'outcomes' we had discussed in the team talk. Leighton Buzzard were certainly putting up a fight and were rewarded with a goal five minutes into the second half. The forwards made some excellent leads and attacks in the D, resulting in numerous short corners but a solid LB defence denied our chances. The second goal came from a sequence of midfield passes and a cross from Kim, allowing Bea to cooly slip the ball between the keepers legs into the goal!
2-1 with still at least 20 minutes to go. We had to dig deep, the game was scrappy and we needed to keep our composure. A short corner awarded for a foot in the D for Hawks. The ball was executed perfectly from the back line. Clare stopped it and it was sent back to the injector. Alice had a shot on goal and it was stopped on the line by a LB defender. Penalty Flick to Hawks! Clare Pritchard chose to take the flick and calmly slotted it into the goal. 3-1!
Overall a good performance by Hawks, it certainly was a battle given the scrappy runs of play and a very physical Leighton Buzzard side!
