Ladies’ 2s success at Sonning

The Ladies 2s travelled to Sonning Hockey Club for an exciting “Saturday night under the lights”. The energy was positive and the mood high, despite looking like the squad would have to watch Gladiators on iPlayer.

With goalkeeper Charlie rushing round to get to the game from Reading Hockey Club (just next door), the 3s on the side line came along to cheer on the 2s.

Hawks started well will lots of possession making Sonning condensed into their own 25.

A short corner straight from the training ground saw Bex Oakes slide the ball into the bottom right corner.

Henri Gordon and Becky Odlin had some fantastic link up play down the left. But despite this Sonning held firm and defended well.

The score at half time, 1-1. Words of wisdom from Wilko saw the 2s go back out focused and ready to step up the level.

Another short corner shortly into the second half saw a drag flick from Martha Reeve to give Hawks the lead.

With momentum building, Lexie Steele shot the ball into the net, 4 minutes later.

With Hawks on top, the play continued to build with front line Flo and Sandra linking together nicely to produce close chances.

Another short corner, mid-way through the half saw captain Helen Nicholson riffle a shot in from close range.

Hawks win 4-1.
