MANTRA: “Good Players Do Simple Things Well” - Andy Clark
With a September ‘Indian Summer feel in the air’ we knew the game would be a hot one, making it a tougher test. We found what little shade there was and did a gentle warm-up to stretch the lower limbs whilst trying to conserve our energy.
From the off Hawks found themselves defending heavily as Teddies attacked strongly, within 2 minutes Teddies won a penalty corner which was saved by Mia (GK) who was already warmed-up from playing the 5s game prior. During the first quarter Teddies had a run of penalty corners but Hawks defence held tight not allowing them to score.
A quick water break and back on the pitch for the second quarter. Thirsty for a goal Teddies scored within 5 mins but their lead was short lived, due to the good link up play from the midfield and forwards resulting in goals from Kim and Char bringing the score line to 2-1 at half time.
Halftime chat:
Simple hockey, Pre scan, Be patient, Trust in our ability on the ball, Dynamic runs & Triangles.
In the second half with the temperature rising and fatigue starting to creep in Hawks had to dig deep. Despite our best efforts Teddies managed to find another two goals, making the final score 3-2 to Teddies.
A well deserved PoM for Mia (GK) for keeping her cool in the heat and many penalty corner saves.
