Season 2024-2025
Oxford Hawks Women’s 5’s vs Banbury 3’s – 12.10.24
Published on 15th Oct, 2024
Hawks women’s 5s had to wait until 4.30pm to set foot on a leafy Iffley Road. The University began strongly, with plenty of speedy players showing some neat stick skills. However, it was Hawks who took the lead with a powerful strike from Caris leaving the goalkeeper no chance.
There were opportunities at both ends. The University equalised from a short corner; one all at half time.
In the second half, the match started to open up and our nifty players – Nina and Anoushka in particular – made some excellent runs. Sherene was unlucky with a shot just past the post and Caris had the ball in the net but the umpire had already blown for a short corner. Fortunately, the corner was a successful one as Kelly slotted home on the post from an excellent pass from Sherene.
The defence remained solid, with some brilliant anticipation and tackling from Niamh, Claire, Susan and Laura. Linda was, as ever, on hand on the odd occasion a shot came in. Jane and Calla both provided excellent outlets from defence and made some powerful drives up both wings. Minty continued to provide outstanding support in the inner role at which she is excelling this season.
Another short corner brought further success as Maria reacted quickest, picking up a loose ball and making the last few minutes more relaxing. Her offspring, watching from the side lines, were mightily impressed!
An excellent team performance against a strong side – early days but the 5s are going well so far!
There were PoM votes for Linda, Nina, Susan and Caris but Maria for her tireless work midfield secure her cake making duties for next weekend
