Season 2024-2025
Women’s 7s win against Wychwood
Published on 22nd Sep, 2024
The 7s were very disappointed to see that their first match was a bye. Then Wychwood asked for a fixture for their third team which was a development team only playing friendlies. So hockey was back on. This was good news for the three 12-year-olds who were very keen to play!
We were very fortunate to have Cat Dabbs coaching us and introduced us to the 3 – 4 – 3 formation. Since Cat had also been volunteered to umpire the first half, we were a little unsure of the subbing. However, the hockey played was excellent. Isla got the first goal, and we continued neck and neck to 3 – 3. In the second half, we managed to pull 2 goals ahead to finish with a 5 – 3 win. Isla got 3 goals in total (we kidded her that now she had to buy a jug of beer!), Margaret got one and Linda got one.
There were plenty of nominations for player of the match: Bella who was always in the right place and then fed the ball forward beautifully, Margaret who had an excellent match reading the game well and showing great skill, Hannah who played well in a variety of positions with great energy, speed and skill, and Clarissa who worked very hard in the midfield with great tackling back. However the winner was Isla who had a superb game as forward with lovely skills and a great finish.
Thank you to our umpires and Tim Dabbs who took the photos.
