Women’s 1s in Stormy match at Cambridge

Published on 16th Oct, 2025

The Ladies 1s travelled to Cambridge on a stormy Saturday, ready to face a strong Cambridge City side.
We started the game on the front foot, with some great early pressure and a couple of promising circle entries in the first five minutes. Hawks looked sharp and created some early chances, but couldn’t quite find the back of the net.
Cambridge responded quickly on the counter and managed to slot away their first goal in the first quarter, putting them 1-0 up. We didn’t let our heads drop and continued to push forward. The forwards battled strongly in the D, earning us a penalty flick which was blown just as the ball went over the goal line. The Cambridge keeper made a great save to keep the score 1-0.
In the second quarter, Cambridge showed their clinical edge, scoring three quick goals to take the score to 4-0 going into halftime.
After a reset at half time, we came out for the second half with energy and determination, ready to fight back. Hawks upped the intensity, moved the ball well and started to turn the pressure back on Cambridge. Our persistence paid off when Eloise scored a goal from the post to tap in our first goal of the game.
Defensively, we stayed solid in the second half, with Ruby making some fantastic saves to deny Cambridge any further goals. The midfield brought the energy throughout, helping us create more attacking chances with the forwards, we just couldn’t quite convert them.
Although the scoreline didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. A strong second half performance, great team spirit, and lots to build on in training this week.
