Women’s 1s beat Birmingham Uni

It was the first league game of the season for the Ladies 1s away at the University of Birmingham against their 2s.

They were excited to start the season in a new league, with new coach Ryan. The game started quickly with Birmingham putting Hawks under pressure early. Birmingham had a few early shots but were unable to convert with Kate making great saves in goal!

The 2nd quarter started with great pressure from the forwards on the Birmingham defence, leading to the first goal; Kim taking a quick ball from a foul won outside the D, to find Smithers for a smashing volley.

Early on into the 3rd quarter, a nice line ball from the Jemima in defence to find Kim out wide, led for another Smithers set up where she slotting the 2 goal of the game defeating the keeper on the near post.

Birmingham continued to push for a goal, putting the pressure on the Hawks defence in the last quarter, but Hawks defence + Kate were unbreakable. The final whistle blew and Hawks walked away with a big 3 points.
