Scrappy game v L6s makes L5s have to dig deep for points

Published on 13th Jan, 2024

Today we played Hawks 6s, our fellow team. We started off a bit scrappy, as we had over a third of our team unavailable, so were playing with a mixed team who weren’t used to playing together. Unfortunately, the L6s didn’t have a goalkeeper for most of the first half, so we maximised on this opportunity and soon managed to score the first goal of the game, courtesy of Kim who did a straight strike from the top of the D on a short corner. This was then followed by another goal from a short corner, hit in by Sherene. However, just before the first half ended the opposition gained a goal making the score 2-1 to us. Play was then stopped for a time as Charlotte got a bad hit to her nose resulting in a hospital visit and a confirmed break. It did give Evelyn time to kit up though so the L6s now had a goalie!

We started the second half with a stronger formation as we had been quite perplexed by playing against 11 outfield players in the first half. We managed some decent attacking play, staying high on the pitch and managed to get another goal. This time it was during open play when Camilla went 1 v 1 with the goalkeeper, stayed composed and got us our third goal.

The last quarter was fast and furious and still scrappy. L6s showed great aggressive play and determination and put us under a lot of pressure with a lot of attacking play in our half. Although they managed to score another goal, we stood our ground and secured the win 3-2 . Good play all round and L5s were relieved to have got the points.
