Oxford Hawks Women’s 6’s vs Witney 4s – 23.11.24
Published on 27th Nov, 2024
The weather conditions in Witney were not ideal , very wet and windy
( but at least the thick sand had been washed
away ) .
However this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the L6’s .
Our first half was unsettled though and at times we didn’t connect and gel well and unfortunately gave too many balls away.
Many of the Witney attacks were defended successfully but eventually a Witney ball dribbled behind Billers in goal. The rest of the first half was an end to end game and fairly even.
After a no nonsense team talk from Cat at half time we were told to win the 50-50 balls and make sure we connected Hawks to Hawks.
We came out with much better focus and effort in the second half and had many more opportunities to attack . The weather seemed to worsen and with almost horizontal rain in our faces we battled on . Unfortunately another dribbly ball managed to get behind Billers in the corner of the goal and so we were down 2-0.
This raised our determination and we upped our game and fought on and were soon rewarded with a goal from Molly. With more self belief we tried our best to equalise and attacked their D on numerous occasions but unfortunately ran out of time . Finishing 2-1 .
POM was Gemma for an outstanding game in defence and midfield .
There were also votes for Oling who battled and won back countless balls making ground up pitch on many occasions . Also Bella had an outstanding game , with great positioning to receive and distribute balls.
Everyone worked hard , and gave their all to the very end despite the dreadful weather and being soaked through to the skin.
