Oxford Hawks Women’s 3’s vs Slough Women’s 2’s – 28.09.24

Published on 01st Oct, 2024

A beautiful Saturday morning in September: a bright beaming sun, beautiful blue skies, hardly a cloud to be seen and the perfect temperature for… hockey!

After a slightly chilly pre-match talk and an extended (but very beneficial) warm up, the threes were ready to play. The starting whistle blew, Nele fired the ball towards Ebony and we were off! Slough 2s started strongly, charging us down with their fast front three but we showed no fear. Following a slightly frantic start, with the ball changing possession between each team rapidly, we kept our cool, pinging the ball from player to player across the pitch. Ten minutes later, the ball whipped across the face of goal and was snuck past the GK by Emma Sherwood. With a goal under our belts, we settled down, cruising along with the ball, showing off our nifty skills and exemplifying our terrific teamwork. Fifteen minutes went by and the mighty 3s scored again! Boosted by a 2-0 advantage, we created some exceptional passage of play (including a sequence practiced on Tuesday, which Laura Scrag would’ve be proud to see!). Not even five minutes went by before Laura Ludlow slipped the ball past Slough’s GK and we were 3-0 as going in to halftime!

Now it was time for the second half. The mighty 3s needed to continue with this outstanding hockey and show Slough who’s boss.

Despite some impressive attacks from Slough and a near nutmeg of Charlie in goal, the score remained 3-0… but not to fear for Emma Sherwood was there! Receiving the ball in our half, she dribbled past the Slough players like they were cones, came face to face with the goalie and… bang! slotted it into the goal! 4-0!! Five minutes was now remaining… would this be the final result? Of course not! Emma Sherwood got the ball again and scored her hat trick resulting in a 5-0 win for the mighty 3s. What a match!
