Oxford Hawks Mens 5’s vs South Berkshire 3s – 16.11.24

It was a mild November morning, the mighty 5s turned up full of optimism against South Berkshire 3s. We started well, making early progress high up the pitch and narrowly misssing out from scoring first amongst some opportunities for short corners that went begging.
Once again, we were stunned by an umpiring injustice, as a back-stick stopped hawks players, whilst the opposition continued. The opposition continued with a second reverse stick attempt which found its way into the bottom corner as everyone stood around waiting for a whistle that never came. We were rattled, and from this moment on never regained a foot hold in the first half. South Berkshire scored 2 more goals leaving us 3-0 at half time. These goals were gifts, as they could not break us down, relying solely on counter attacks. The second half was much better, but with a mountain to climb, not even Charlie’s crystal ball could bring us a 4-goal comeback. With a bit more composure, hawks 5s were able to win a handful of short corners along side a portfolio of field goal opportunities. But alas, it was not meant to be. A late counter from SB put the final nail in the heart of the weary hawks warriors. Final score, 4-0. Overall, a disappointing day out, but we pick ourselves up and go again.
