Oxford Hawks Mens 4’s Vs Wallingford 2’s – 02.11.24

Published on 06th Nov, 2024

Although the scoreline read 1-0 to Hawks at half time, the shackles were well and truly off following the interval with Hawks scoring five without reply. In truth, this was a one-sided contest; with Hawks shotstopper, George Illingworth, touching the ball twice during the 70 minutes. Still, he would have been delighted to secure victory over his former teammates.

There was an assured display from joint player of the match Alex Day, Bertie Cook’s thunderous slap was a constant problem for Wallingford and Kieran Roche – fresh from his imperious performance at Reading – was once again the thread that brought everything together for Hawks. Honourable mentions must also go to Harry Kettlewell for his industry, and to Ben Cuthbert who continues to grow in confidence in the middle of the pitch.

To the goals – it was Luke Eames who put Hawks ahead with a thudding strike from the left-hand side of the D; courtesy of assist number one for forward Chris Abraham.

Following the half-time interval – with Hawks fully in control despite the marginal scoreline – skipper Guy Biggs continued his fine form in front of goal with a finish from a similar angle to Eames, with the ball nestling high in Wallingford’s net.

The goals continued to flow. Matt Oakes – The Hawks Performance League Guru – scored from close range; Roche thudded one in from the top of the D following a simple short corner routine; whilst there was also time for Biggs to add to his tally for the campaign with another close range finish – Chris Abraham doubling his tally of assists for the match in the process.

Before the game was out, Chris Maidlow also managed to bag himself a goal from close range – much to the delight of his teammates – with Chris Abraham somewhat unselfishly, it would seem, assisting Maidlow to bag himself a hattrick of assists.

A fine performance all round for the Galacticos – the mixed start to the season appears to be behind them following this rout.
