Ladies’ 7s in good game with Abingdon

Published on 19th Nov, 2022

The Ladies’ 7s got off to an exciting start in their Saturday morning match against Abingdon 2s. Within minutes of the match starting, Hawks achieved their first short corner. The Ladies had been practising before the match and with a narrow miss on the goal line, managed to get a penalty. Milla bravely stepped up to take this with an excellent shot on goal, but it was saved by the goalie.

The first half saw some great play among the ladies, with Sophie, Kim and Charlotte keeping great control of the ball and ensuring it stayed in the Hawks attacking side for much of the match. There were numerous great short corners in the first half, however Hawks ladies were unlucky not to get a goal.

Despite some great defensive play at the back from Katie, Charlotte, Sarah and Jane, Abingdon 2s managed to get their first goal during the first half.

With some half time encouragement, the ladies went out ready to win back a goal. Milla and Esther both had some brilliant runs up the pitch, however unfortunately Abingdon managed to find the back of the net a second time.

Stepping up their game, the ladies refused to go down without a fight, and after some brilliant passing up the pitch, were rewarded by a fantastic goal slotted in by a perfectly positioned Liv on the post.

There was a lot of great play and passing among the Hawks ladies, however the 7s were unlucky to concede one more goal to Abingdon.

The ladies reflected after the match that the score didn’t reflect what was a great game from the 7s. In particular, the team were conscious how much play is improving as players get to know each other. With that in mind, the Ladies look forward to heading onwards and upwards with more goals to come in future weeks! With a great game all round, there were multiple nominations for player of the match, including Esther, Kim, Sophie and Charlotte. Player of the match this week went to Jill.
