Season 2023-2024
Ladies’ 7s against Aylesbury
Published on 04th Feb, 2024
On a bright, warmish morning, Ladies’ 7s took to the field against Aylesbury with the luxury of 3 subs. Huei had organised some excellent drills to warm us up and plan some plays. We looked strong and attacking from the start and made our presence felt in their D but couldn't convert chances.
However, Aylesbury were able to convert their breakthroughs into goals with their quick and accurate passes.
Half time 0-4. We had a good team talk at half time, sharing thoughts and agreeing to play more possession-hockey, mark more tightly, and keep the ball moving quickly.
The second half seemed more evenly- balanced. Hawks pressured Aylesbury and won many short corners. Again, however, Aylesbury were able to score with their breakthroughs. The final score was 0-9.
The many nominations for man of the match (Ros, Amy, Bella, Huei, Nina) reflecting a hard-fought match.
The winner this week was Philippa Otter, with her strong clearances and excellent distribution. Even the opposition remarked that the match felt more even than the final score suggested. They also commended our good team spirit.
