Season 2023-2024
Ladies’ 6s let Witney 3s win
Published on 17th Oct, 2023
Witney 3’s visited the home of hockey on Saturday and faced off against Oxford Hawks Ladies 6’s. It was a tight encounter played in good spirits, which ultimately Witney deservedly (probably) edged. Witney started strongly, were physical and demonstrated their attacking intent, piling pressure on to Hawks in the first 5 minutes. During the early stages of the first half a couple of individual errors led to chances for Witney, which in both cases they carefully dispatched.
The home team grew into the game, with standout performances from captain Yas & Phoebe A who on a number of occasions incisively ran into the opponent territory. The game remained tight and neither side coughed up many chances for the other. It was end-to-end for the remainder of the game, with Player of the Match Jan marshalling the Oxford defence well. Despite demonstrating plenty of resilience, Hawks were unable to unlock the Witney defence and overall Witney closed out the game for the victory.
Hawks went down 2-0 but there is plenty to build on for the coming weeks. Well played to everyone on a sunny but slightly chilly Saturday.
