Ladies’ 2s triumph over Trojans

The A34 led the mighty ladies Hawks 2s towards the sea where they were met by the Trojan fortress. The fortress proved to be a good strong hold for the home side for the first 17 minutes where they looked comfortable in both attack and defence. Their left back was pivotal in their attacks, and they were rewarded with 2 goals in the first 9 minutes. One from open play at minute 5 and one from a short corner minute 9.

Hawks responded.. communication improved and movement around the pitch and through the lines started to open up spaces.  Niamh, Dan and Henri loved their new lease of life hugging the side lines, whilst Bex and Vics sprayed balls out high and wide. This opened channels for Kathryn Poulter to glide effortlessly on to weighted balls.

The youth were stars in the middle of the park and the first goal came from an assist from Lexi deflected into the Queen of low to the ground Becky Odlin. The equaliser again from Odlin came from a pass from Katie which was slotted reverse stick under the keeper. The Hawks forwards had to work exceptionally hard against a very experienced and talented keeper. Two- all at half time and the momentum had shifted. Libby and Lexi the young guns showed the oldies how it was done with some lovely one/twos through the mid field. The pressure led to a short corner where Kathryn scored taking Hawks to 3-2.

The game wasn’t one sided and Trin led the defence against a wave of short corners.

Connections and passing around the pitch began opening up more space and Lexi scored a beautifully timed one touch reverse strike to take Hawks to a 4-2 finish. We say farewell to Flo who’s speed and silky stick skills will be missed.

The Hawks returned to the Banbury Road fortress where they will prepare for the remainder of the season.
