Ladies’ 2s in smashing win when all other home games are off

The early December frigid sub-zero weather could not deter the mighty Ladies’ 2s from showing up and playing some smashing hockey. The midday game allowed for a just about playable pitch and being the only team at BRN we enjoyed the luxury of an on pitch warm up.

The match began very positively with many early shots, notably Odders’ reverse which hit the crossbar. This effective play soon led to one of many goals, with Kathryn running up the baseline to Meggs the goalie. Soon after Caro scored a cracking hit from a short corner furthering our lead. After some lovely open play connections, Odders snuck one more in with a little tap in. With only two minutes left before half time Niamh fired the ball into the D for Kathryn to get a beautiful touch bringing the score to 4-0.

After the usually riveting team talk from Wilko, we began the second half just as determined. The fifth goal came from a short where Caro hit for yet another deflection from Kathryn, giving her a hattrick! Sadly then Lexi got injured from a hard hit to the back on her leg forcing her to come off. Though finishing the game on a high note, with a final goal from Bex off a short corner where she whacked it in. Overall a splendid game for the team despite the bitter weather. POM went deservedly to Kathryn after her tremendous goal scoring and DOD equally appropriately went to Lucille for her extremely late arrival.
