Season 2022-2023
L6s secure another 3 points with 4-1 win over Wychwood 1s
Published on 16th Jan, 2023
It was a lovely day, no rain, the sun was shining, Caroline resolved her footwear issue and made it in time for the start of the match, so we had the novelty a full squad of 16 raring to go and fuelled by yesterday’s POM donuts.
With player rotations and a cunning plan in place Hawks started off slowly, trying to find connections but not really moving the ball quickly enough. Wychwood took advantage of this and had a couple of fast breaks to threaten the Hawks defence. Hawks were unlucky to concede a goal from one of these breaks when Wychwood managed to slipped the ball under the outstretched body of Billers in goal. This was a wake-up call for the Hawks players who snapped into action. Some slick passing, good ball speed and support play on the left set up Linda for her first goal of the day to bring the game level. This was closely followed by a second goal from Jess to put Hawks 2-1 in the lead at the end of the half.
After some wise words from Captain Phil, Hawks started the second half hungry for more goals. Linda scored her second of the day, deflecting in a short corner and then completed her hat-trick after pouncing on a rebound off the Wychwood keeper in a goalmouth scramble to bring the final score to 4-1.
Hawks were very happy to finish with 16 injury-free players and to take the six 6 points from the weekend’s matches which moves them midtable in the league. They celebrated in the club house with a feast of donuts and some happy banter. PoM went to Linda for scoring a hat-trick and who knows, might provide some more donuts for the match next week against Witney. Just some food for thought!
A huge thank you to our umpires Rus and Jacs.
