Hawks indoor team at the South Tournament

Game 1 vs Winchester
1-1
Hawkes opened the tournament against Winchester, a hard end to end game, trying out new formations. Coach Odders could be frequently heard shouting ‘T, L and House’. These manoeuvres led to a lovely passage of attacking play down the right hand side of the pitch, some skills from Emma led to the ball being played in to Hibby who put the ball into the net. Unfortunately the goal was disallowed as the umpires deemed it to be too much of a slap… We came back strong to win a corner, where Emma scored a well executed flick into the goal.

Game 2 vs Fareham
0-0
Building on a strong first performance Hawkes were keen to get the ball moving. Faster subbing rotations increased the intensity of the game. A quick passing move saw Odders find the back of the net, but sadly, it was to be another goal disallowed. Charlie worked well under pressure to have quick feet and keep an excellent clean sheet.

Game 3 vs Army
2-0
After last year Hawkes were determined to top the Army. Some patient transfer play across the back lead to a great team goal, with passing from Emma to Odders to Hibby passing the ball into the goal. Just before half time, some excellent play won the team a corner and from the left hand side of the D was flicked nicely into the goal by Longy.

Game 4 vs Southampton Uni
1-0
Having finished 2nd in the pool, Hawkes were through to the quarter finals. The team started really strong but under a period of pressure Southampton deflected the ball into the net. Had there not been two more disallowed goals the final result would have been 2-1 to Hawks’s, who would have progressed onto the Semi’s, but today was not the day.

Overall the team were proud of the improvement they had made from last year and enjoyed a fun day out! Special thanks to Odders for rounding us up and keeping us in order.
