W2s through to final!

Published on 17th Apr, 2026

Congratulations to the W2 who are through to the final of the National Tier 2 Plate after a superb win at home to Guernsey! The Island only has ~60,000 people and the hockey set up there is quite interesting, with the Women’s team playing in a league with Mens teams and Boys teams – but they are also allowed to enter the England Hockey cup competitions, and rely on sponsorship to help with their significant travel costs! They flew over to Southampton that morning and came up to BRN in a private hire coach, and started very strongly – with Freya in goal making some good early saves. At the other end Hawks came close with Reaney hitting the post but somehow the teams got to half time with the score goalless.

In the 3rd quarter it was Guernsey who dominated the early exchanges, but it was Hawks who took the lead on a quick break – with Bea Phillips on hand to slot home past the diving keeper. Hawks struck again minutes later with Smithers smashing home a short corner strike. Ok, maybe it took a little deflection? This took the wind out of Guernsey’s sails and the match was sealed two minutes from the end when Eliza Chippendale smashed home from the top of the D. Player of the Match was a tie between Flick Hughes and Alice Potter who were both superb throughout.

The 2s now look forward to a trip to Lee Valley on 2nd May at 2:30 pm for the final where they will face Swindon!
