Following two successive promotions, the Men's 1s will be playing in the England Hockey Men's Hockey League Division 1 South in 2020-2021, just one tier below the Premiership.

The M1’s are coached by Todd Williams. Todd is a former Australian international who came to England to play for Southgate in 1998. Since then he has coached Hampstead and Westminster HC in the Men’s Premier League as well as taking Surbiton HC into the European Hockey League. He also coached Slough Ladies to a Women’s Premier League title and to a silver medal at the European Cup Winners Club Competition.

Todd has worked at international level with various teams including the men’s team of France and Ireland and most recently as a consultant skills coach with the Great Britain’s women’s team. In addition to guiding the M1’s to two successive promotions, Todd is also kept busy as the Hockey Professional at Magdalen College School.

Todd’s coaching philosophy is based largely on the simple premise of making better teams by helping players to get better. To do that, he is able to draw on his own experience as a player in the Australian men’s team and the good fortune he has had to have worked with some of the very best coaches in the world. Todd’s aim is always to give players, no matter what their level or age, a clear picture as to how they can take the next step forward. As he says, it’s a simple game but no one should ever confuse that with the hard work that is needed to get to the higher levels. This includes understanding that every top player has excellent basic skills.
