Oxford Hawks Women’s 6’s vs Oxford Hawks Women’s 5’s – 28.09.24

Nobody likes the thought of playing against our club mates especially when one of our players has been asked to play against us but we had to try to forget that the opposition were a Hawks team and just play OUR game.

6’s started really strongly and for the first 20 minutes they looked like they had the edge over the 5’s. We kept our structure and made good connections and dominated play. Our defence held strong until a momentary loss of focus which allowed 2 unmarked players to attack our D only minutes before half time . A well positioned Caitlin finished the move with a goal despite Helena’s best efforts to defend single handedly.

In the second half the 6’s were a little more ‘scrappy ‘ and on a few occasions didn’t quite manage to pass maroon to maroon , however spirits were still high and we continued to battle.

Numerous short corners were successfully defended , but after hitting a 6’s foot we expected play to stop for a short corner but the umpire played advantage and 5’s quickly scored making it 0-2.

We fought on and held strong , giving the 5’s a competitive , close game and managed to keep them out til the end.

A much better score line than our match against them last season and lots of positives to take forward for the season.

Well done team , you should all feel proud of our performance today.
